After that, things happened rapidly. HTTP arrived 1991, 1993 we got the first graphic browser (Mosaic), 1996 we got the first modern internet bank in Sweden (I designed the security functionality), Google was founded in 1998 and they released Chrome in 2008.
In the 90's, a mobile phone was a voice transmitting unit with some messaging capability; today it is a computer, able to transmit voice as an add-on.
The only thing we know about future technological development is that we don't really know anything about what and when. But we need to follow the trends and evaluate what is useful, directly or indirectly, for our customers. And implement it (safely, of course...).
Things move really fast these days; not moving forward is to be left behind.
(I notice I didn't mention Microsoft, Apple, early search engines, or most browser brands above. That is because they were (or were not) commercial rather than technical success stories.)
